Phacoemulsification cataract surgery is a modern procedure that uses an ultrasonic device to break up and remove the cataract from the eye to improve vision. Insertion of the intraocular lens (IOL) usually follows the phacoemulsification immediately to compensate for the eye’s refractive errors.
This technique removes the need for anesthetic injection behind the eye and the need for sutures. the surgery is completed without stitches since the micro-incisions are designed to be self-sealing.
