Sclerotherapy is a treatment for varicose and spider veins. Varicose and spider veins are typical vascular issues affecting mostly women.
Varicose veins are swollen and twisted veins that most commonly present in the legs but can also develop in other areas of the body. They are often dark purple or blue in colour. Spider veins are small, red veins that can form on the legs and face, particularly near mucosal membranes. They are named because their resemblance to a spider web.
Varicose and spider veins are caused by a variety of causes, including inheritance, prolonged standing or sitting, and obesity. Sclerotherapy is an excellent treatment for spider veins and smaller varicose veins. This treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or on veins that can be utilised for heart bypass surgery unless they are severely damaged.
Spider and varicose veins frequently attract unwelcome attention and can be painful. If this issue is affecting your confidence or stopping you from going about your daily activities or wearing your preferred attire, get medical attention:
Sclerotherapy causes the treated veins to fade and become less noticeable over time. The sclerosing solution irritates the blood vessel lining, causing it to collapse and cling together. This procedure redirects blood flow to healthier veins, resulting in improved circulation. The collapsing veins are ultimately absorbed by the body and disappear. The effects are not instantaneous, and it may take many weeks to months for the full extent of the effects to become evident. Multiple sclerotherapy treatments may be required to attain the desired result. Individual outcomes may vary, but the process is typically efficient in decreasing the appearance of varicose and spider veins. Follow-up sessions are critical for tracking progress and evaluating whether more treatments are required.
